New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had another hard season in 2023.
The former first-round pick was supposed to be the starting quarterback for this season but was benched multiple times for Bailey Zappe because of his inconsistencies.
He’s still under contract for the 2024 season but right now, it’s hard to see the Patriots bringing him back. Despite that, Jones has vowed to be better for next season, whether that’s with the Patriots or another team.
“I feel like I let people down with my play. A lot of that stuff is in my control and some of it is not. So, I’m going to do everything I can for my next opportunity whether that’s here and really just push forward and continue to be Mac. That’s what it’s all about. Don’t let that waver,” Jones said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk).
Jones finished the 2023 season with 2,120 yards through the air, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. That came after his 2022 season which saw him rack up 2,997 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
He hasn’t done enough at the NFL level and it will likely force the Patriots to get a new quarterback for next season.
