Patricia left the Patriots after the 2022 season.
Long-time New England Patriots assistant coach Matt Patricia has found a new job. The 50-year-old is “finalizing a deal” to become the next defensive coordinator at Ohio State, according to a report by Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Patricia first joined the Patriots in 2004, and over the next few seasons climbed the organizational ladder until being named defensive coordinator in 2012. After helping the team win a pair of Super Bowls, he left for an unsuccessful stint as head coach of the Detroit Lions.
In 2021, Patricia returned to New England — first as an advisor and later as the team’s offensive line coach. In that second role, he additionally served as a quasi-coordinator. Following his lone season at that job in 2022, however, he left the team and eventually joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a senior defensive assistant.
Patricia did not return to the Eagles for their 2024 championship campaign. Now, he has found another coaching job.
