Mike Vrabel interviewed for the New England Patriots’ vacant head coaching job on Thursday. There have been questions as to what his staff could potentially look like if he’s ultimately hired for the job.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler included a nugget in a recent article that might have hinted in the direction Vrabel could be headed on the offensive side of the ball.
Could the former three-time Super Bowl champion be eyeing a reunion with former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels?
Fowler wrote:
One note on Vrabel: There is buzz in some coaching circles that Josh McDaniels could be a prime candidate to be Vrabel’s offensive coordinator. That would be quite the nostalgia tandem, and though McDaniels is a two-time failed head coach, no one disputes his coordinator chops. It would be good for Maye, but so would having Johnson as the head coach.
McDaniels was a key part of the Patriots’ success. He was part of all six Super Bowl-winning teams and worked with Tom Brady to create potent offenses for New England.
In his last run with the Patriots, he coached a rookie Mac Jones to his first Pro Bowl nod and playoff appearance.
If McDaniels could work that kind of magic with Jones, one has to wonder what he could do with a player like Maye.
