New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye being added to the 2025 Pro Bowl Games didn’t come without some controversy on Tuesday.
Some fans took to social media to congratulate the promising young quarterback for a well-deserved career accomplishment. However, there were some left wondering how Maye and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson got the nod over other AFC signal-callers, such as Justin Herbert and Bo Nix.
Everyone will likely have their own opinions on the matter, but the context of Maye’s rookie season is important. Doing a stat-by-stat comparison doesn’t tell the full story considering Maye only started in 12 games in the season. He was also playing behind one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines and a lackluster receiving corps.
Couple that with the inexperienced coaching staff and it’s clear why so many people were high on Maye in his first season. The poise, accuracy and playmaking abilities he managed to show with the lack of help around him was astounding for a young quarterback.
