NFL Insider Convinced He Knows Which Quarterback Patriots Want

It’s no secret the New England Patriots are likely to draft a quarterback on Thursday night. One insider believes a commonly predicted scenario will unfold.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer broke down how he sees the draft starting in an Instagram video. Breer said there’s “no question” the Chicago Bears will start the draft by picking Caleb Williams and feels “almost as certain” that the Washington Commanders will select Jayden Daniels at No. 2.

Breer thought “all along” that Drake Maye would get picked at No. 3 overall. However, he considered it possible New England would trade down with the New York Giants or Minnesota Vikings.

While the Patriots have told teams they’ll entertain offers until they finalize the choice, Breer is more confident they’ll stay put and pick the North Carolina quarterback.

“I now feel pretty good that he’s going to be a New England Patriot,” Breer said of Maye.

During a Wednesday interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Maye said he has “an idea” where he thinks he’ll end up Thursday night. He also confirmed that he doesn’t mind playing in cold weather.

New England can certainly use a new franchise quarterback after trading Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While some scouts may see J.J. McCarthy as a long shot, the organization’s decision may be as simple as picking whichever one of Williams, Daniels, or Maye remains available at No. 3.

“Such a historic program and team and history up there in New England,” Maye said after meeting with the Patriots last month. “So just getting the chance to know them, get to know what they’re about and their champion mindset of getting back to the glory days has been cool,”
