The Ohio State Buckeyes have their new defensive coordinator.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the reigning national champions were finalizing a deal to make former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia their new defensive play-caller.
The team has been searching for a new defensive coach ever since Jim Knowles accepted the defensive coordinator job at Penn State. So Buckeyes coach Ryan Day ultimately landed on Patricia, a three-time Super Bowl-winning assistant with previous head coaching experience with the Detroit Lions.
There’s hope that Patricia’s experience will add value to a Buckeyes defense that dominated last season.
With that said, the reaction to the news was met with both optimism and skepticism. Some are concerned with Patricia’s previous failed efforts as an assistant and head coach, while others are hopeful that he’ll be a positive addition to the coaching staff.
