It’s reasonable to think that Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper might be interested in making Bill Belichick head coach of the team in order to bring the Panthers back to respectability. But Tepper doesn’t see it that way.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Tepper indicated that he wants a coach who is going to be around for “20 or 30 years” and someone who is young enough to “say the eulogy at my funeral.” That would probably count out Belichick, who is five years older than Tepper.
“I would like to have somebody here for 20 or 30 years,” Tepper said, via ESPN.
“I would like to have somebody that would say the eulogy at my funeral in 30 years. OK, maybe it’s 40 years, I hope.”

David Tepper has proven to have a rather itchy trigger finger when it comes to hear coaches and even general managers.
Since taking over the team in 2018, he has fired three head coaches and a general manager in the middle of the season – Ron Rivera, Marty Hurney, Matt Rhule and now Frank Reich.
Even if Tepper did want Belichick, it stands to reason that Belichick might want to keep Tepper at an arm’s length.
