Coach Mike Vrabel addressed the report that he told Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady that he was taking the New England Patriots job.
That conversation reportedly led to the Raiders passing on interviewing Vrabel altogether. However, according to Vrabel, that might not have been specifically how things went.
“Well, I don’t know if that was the case,” Vrabel said, when appearing on “The Greg Hill Show.” “Tom and I have had many discussions. We’re friends, we’re teammates. We’ve continued to talk throughout my career in coaching.”
The Raiders are continuing their coaching search along with five other teams in the NFL.
Meanwhile, Vrabel returns to his roots in New England with an opportunity to rebuild and reestablish a winning culture within the organization.
We’ll never know the extent of the back-channel conversations that reportedly occurred in the lead-up to Vrabel accepting the job with the Patriots. The only certainty we can take away is that the Patriots got their guy.
