The New England Patriots have finally decided to give the starting to Bailey Zappe and bench Mac Jones. But it appears that the team is elevating another quarterback to potentially back up Zappe rather than Jones.
On Saturday, the Patriots announced that they will be elevating quarterback Malik Cunningham from the practice squad to the active roster for tomorrow’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Cunningham has been the Patriots No. 3 starter all season but has yet to throw a pass in an NFL game and has only taken six snaps.
However, the Patriots could just be elevating him to serve as a combination of quarterback and wide receiver, as they’ve done once before.
But if Bailey Zappe isn’t up to the task of injecting some life into this Patriots offense, maybe Cunningham gets some reps at quarterback to give them a spark.

At 2-9 on the season, the Patriots are on the verge of sliding into a top-two draft pick for the year. By year’s end they could very well wind up with the top pick in the draft if things continue to go this poorly for them.
The Patriots’ inability to solve their quarterback woes now could ironically result in it being solved for them in April.
