The 30-year-old’s contract runs through the 2026 season.
As the New England Patriots move in a different direction up front, a veteran nose tackle will do the same.
The organization has granted Davon Godchaux permission to seek a trade, as first reported Wednesday by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Godchaux, 30, has started 67 of his 68 appearances since arriving in Foxborough as an unrestricted free agent in 2021. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound run stuffer stands with 250 tackles and 2.5 sacks during his tenure. He has added one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one batted pass across a total of 2,662 defensive snaps.
The Patriots reached contract extensions with Godchaux in July of 2022 and July of 2024. The latest re-up, which was signed a week into training camp, brought $16.5 million guaranteed as well as a maximum value of $21 million.
His current deal runs through 2026 — when no guaranteed salary remains.
Godchaux started every game last season under previous head coach Jerod Mayo and previous defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington. For a depth chart that went without Christian Barmore for all but four contests due to blood clots, he handled 60.7 percent of the defensive workload.
January then saw Mike Vrabel named head coach and Terrell Williams named defensive coordinator. More single-gapping is expected to follow as part of New England’s new, attacking scheme. The 4-13 campaign of 2024 netted 28 sacks, 12 takeaways and an average of 4.4 yards allowed per rushing attempt.
Originally entering the NFL on the other side of the AFC East, Godchaux was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2017 draft at No. 178 overall. The LSU product appeared in 52 games, starting 42, for the organization that filled out his card while logging 179 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble.
