The New England Patriots currently have the fourth-best odds of landing Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders are the only three teams ahead of the Patriots in the pecking order.
On Monday, Garrett requested a trade in a statement released to the public. That sparked talk from NFL fans from every corner, including New England, on what it would take to land the former defensive MVP.
Garrett is one of the best players in the league. Even at 29 years old, every team in a position to make a move should be giving the Browns a phone call.
As for the Patriots, they don’t fit the bill as a ready-made contender, but they do have Mike Vrabel as their head coach. Vrabel spent time in Cleveland as a coaching and personnel consultant. There’s hope that his link to the organization might somehow improve the Patriots’ chances of trading for Garrett.
It would be a complicated trade considering the Browns and Garrett will need to both sign off on any potential deal. The Browns would be looking for premium draft picks, and Garrett is looking for a team that gives him the best opportunity to compete for a championship.
New England is a rebuilding team that needs picks to fill out their roster, and they are a long way away from being a Super Bowl contender.
They should make the call to the Browns, but the chances of an actual deal getting done feels like a longer shot than the odds indicate.
