The New England Patriots are reportedly hiring Cleveland Browns offensive assistant Ashton Grant as their new quarterbacks coach, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.
Grant is a Connecticut native who attended Assumption University in Worcester. So this is a homecoming for the man set to replace T.C. McCartney.
Mike Vrabel hiring a quarterbacks coach is a different approach from Bill Belichick, who typically had Josh McDaniels pulling double duty as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Grant crossed paths with Vrabel during their time together in Cleveland. After being fired as the head coach for the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel served as a coaching and personnel assistant for the Browns.

Vrabel has been hard at work filling in the few vacancies left on the coaching staff after naming McDaniels, Terrell Williams and Jeremy Springer as the new coordinators for the team.
Grant will bring fresh eyes to the coaching staff in an overall effort to get the most out of a promising young quarterback in Drake Maye.
