Longtime New England Patriots insider Tom Curran is not wavering in his reporting that Bill Belichick’s time with the team is over.
Curran said last month that the Patriots had already decided to move on from Belichick, and he reiterated that report on his podcast this week.
“As I reported in December, a decision was made further back in the year that the Patriots would be parting ways with Bill Belichick,” Curran said. “The end of the season is upon us. They have not parted ways, but the decision remains. Bill Belichick will not be back as the head of the New England Patriots in 2024.”
If that’s the case, why has no decision been announced yet, three days after the conclusion of the regular season?
“I think it has a lot to do with the untangling of a 24-year union with an individual,” Curran theorized. “That untangling is going to take some time, especially if you want to keep the relationship intact going forward.”

The Patriots are coming off a 4-13 regular season, their worst mark under Belichick and the worst record Belichick has posted as an NFL head coach.
Multiple teams are said to be interested in Belichick should he become available, but New England would have to officially release him from his duties for that to happen.
