Count former New England Patriots legend Ty Law among those who think the team should be careful when considering a quarterback with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
The legendary defensive back suggested the team should draft former Ohio State star wide receiver because he’s a “special athlete” and pair him with a veteran quarterback. Law made it clear he doesn’t love the chances of hitting on a quarterback with the No. 3 pick after the consensus No. 1 pick Caleb Williams is gone.
“Sometimes you got a special athlete, and Marvin Harrison is one of them,” Law said. “So, if you can go get a veteran quarterback … for the right price, and get somebody like Marvin Harrison Jr.”
“Because you never know. And I think we have a long history of data saying you get a top quarterback, that does not necessarily mean you’re gonna have success. You’re taking a hell of a chance when you go up there, because this is the NFL, guys … just because you whooped [expletive] in college, that don’t mean you’re gonna whoop [expletive] in the pros.”

He admitted the Patriots are in a “tricky” spot if they don’t fall in love with one of the top quarterback prospects like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
“That is a tricky situation when you’re talking about getting a quarterback because you’re going to have to invest a lot of money,” he said. “Unless there’s just somebody that you’re like, ‘You know what, this guy is it,’ I don’t know if they’re going to be in the position to be like, ‘That’s the guy.’ Caleb is going to be gone. If Drake Maye is there do you take a chance on him? So now you start going into the second tier of the quarterbacks – even though they’re still first-round draft picks. But you just never know.”
Marvin Harrison Jr. is seen as one of the best wide receiver prospects in recent memory, but passing on a potential franchise quarterback would hurt for years to come.
