Former New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law said he enjoyed playing for Bill Belichick. However, he liked the head coach more than the general manager.
On WEEI’sThe Greg Hill Show, Law said he had no issue with Belichick outside of contract negotiations.
“That’s the only time me and Bill didn’t get along — contract time,” Law said (h/t NESN). “I’ll say it every time. Bill is the coolest, dopest coach. Personable, you can always go talk to him. The only time that he’s an ass — and I will call him an ass — Bill knows I will call him an ass during contract time. That’s the only time. Other than that, man, Bill is solid as a rock.”

The Patriots ended Law’s 10-year tenure with the team when releasing him in 2005. They couldn’t reach an extension before the final season of his seven-year deal.
The previous year, Law claimed the “bridge is burned” after receiving an offer he considered an “insult” and “slap in the face.”
“I’ll go out there and play my game,” Law said in 2004. “I’m not saying I’m going to be the best guy to be around or your favorite guy to talk to. But I’m not going to hurt my teammates and I’m not going to hurt myself. I’m going to go out there and play football, because if you want to pay $7 million to a guy that really doesn’t want to be here, OK, this is business. Fine. You don’t have to like your boss to work and do your job well.”
Law joined the New York Jets for the first of two stints and ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 2009.
The Patriots were perennial title contenders during Law’s time with Belichick, but they’re now 2-8. It’s unclear who will start at quarterback against the New York Giants this Sunday.
