The Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Malik Cunningham to their active roster off the New England Patriots’ practice squad on Tuesday.
Cunningham, a former standout at the University of Louisville, showed flashes during preseason action but appeared in only one regular season game for New England and did not attempt a pass.
Cunningham was behind Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe on the depth chart, but it seems like he left a favorable impression on his teammates.
Offensive tackle Trent Brown sent a message of encouragement to Cunningham on Instagram after news of the signing broke. In the process, he took an apparent jab at the Patriots.
“Go flourish where your talent is respected,” Brown told Cunningham.

While Brown may feel the Patriots didn’t respect Cunningham’s abilities enough, the young signal caller did express gratitude for the organization in a message to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“I wanted to thank Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick for giving me opportunity to play with the Patriots. I learned a lot from them,” Cunningam told Schefter. “I want to be a coach one day, so I would take notes from coach Belichick because he’s one of the greatest of all time. I had great teammates in New England and built relationships that will last a lifetime. But I just feel like this is a good opportunity for me and I’m excited to be a Baltimore Raven.”

With Baltimore, Cunningham will have an opportunity to go to the playoffs as he provides additional depth at QB behind Lamar Jackson.
