The deadline came, the deadline went, and the Patriots decided to stay put.
The New England Patriots were the subject of multiple rumors over the last few days, but when push came to shove they decided to stay put. The team did not make any moves at the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
Even though de facto general manager Eliot Wolf was involved in some talks, and several trades were made around the league, nothing transpired at One Patriot Place on Tuesday. The trading window closed at 4 p.m. ET, and the Patriots let it do so quietly.
As a consequence, the players rumored to possibly be available for trade will therefore remain on the roster. This includes the likes of wide receivers K.J. Osborn and Tyquan Thornton. In addition, teams called to inquire wideout Kendrick Bourne, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, cornerback Christian Gonzalez and safety Kyle Dugger, but they will also stay with the Patriots.
Likewise, New England did not acquire any outside talent besides guard Tyrese Robinson: the third-year man will officially be signed off the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad soon. In a preparatory move, fellow O-lineman Zachary Thomas was released on Tuesday.
Despite their inactivity on deadline day, the Patriots did make one trade in the days leading up to the event. Outside linebacker Joshua Uche was shipped to the Kansas City Chiefs in return for a sixth-round selection in the 2026 draft.
The NFL closing its trading window until the start of the 2025 league year next March also means that all players who are now released will be subject to waivers. Before the deadline, only those with less than four seasons had to pass through the waiver wire to enter free agency.
