It’s the start of a new era in New England with Jerod Mayo taking over as their new head coach. While there is still plenty of work for Mayo to do, we now know the main men who will be working on his staff this season.
On Thursday, the Patriots announced their three coordinators for the 2024 season: Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer.
Van Pelt is a quarterbacks guru who spent the last four seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns.
Covington is an internal promotion who has spent the last four years as the team’s defensive line coach. Prior to that he spent another year as the outside linebackers coach and two more as a general coaching assistant. His primary experience as a defensive coordinator comes from his run with Eastern Illinois in 2016.
Springer spent the last two seasons as the assistant special teams coach for the Los Angeles Rams. Prior to that he had four years of special teams coordinator experience split between Marshall and Arizona.

There could very well be growing pains in 2024 as Jerod Mayo’s first season will likely include a rookie quarterback as well.
But the team is doing a good job of hiring a balance of coaches who have experience outside the organization, inside the organization and have had general success overall.
Do you approve of these hires?
