The Patriots returned to the practice fields on Monday.
Following a league-mandated three day weekend, the New England Patriots were back to work for a self proclaimed “bonus day” of Monday. While head coach Jerod Mayo shared the primary focus would be a self-scout day, the Patriots also began some work on their Week 4 opponent, the San Francisco 49ers.
“We’ll sprinkle a little bit in there on the 49ers, but it’s about us. It’s a bonus day for us,” Mayo said Monday morning. “It has everything to do with self-scout and working on things that continue to show up on a game after game basis.”
Attendance
Absent: TE Hunter Henry, LB Ja’Whaun Bentley, CB Alex Austin (ankle)
Limited: OT Vederian Lowe (knee), OG Michael Jordan (knee), LB Anfernee Jennings
Returned: OG Sidy Sow
In the absent department, top tight end Hunter Henry was a surprise new addition to the list. He was joined by cornerback Alex Austin, who did not finish Thursday’s contest with an ankle injury, and Ja’Whaun Bentley, who has yet to land on injured reserve with a torn pec.
The primary focus of the day came along the offensive line, as guard Sidy Sow returned from the ankle injury he suffered in the preseason finale. The team will now see how he responds to the ramp up, but Sow took his usual spot at left guard as Michael Jordan was limited with the knee injury he suffered Thursday night.
Next to Sow at left tackle was rookie Caedan Wallace, who supported a knee brace after also not being able to finish Thursday’s game. The rookie appeared to avoid a serious injury and continued to hold down the blindside as Vederian Lowe was limited.
New England will be off on Tuesday before returning to the practice fields on Wednesday, when they’ll be required to submit their first injury report of the week.
