The undrafted arrival was in the final year of his rookie deal.
Brenden Schooler will remain in the New England Patriots’ kicking game through 2027.
The organization has reached agreement with the core defensive back on a three-year, $9 million contract extension, as NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported Friday through AJAX Sports Agency.
The pact includes $3.6 million guaranteed and is worth up to $10.5 million with incentives.

Schooler, 27, was in the final fall of his rookie contract. Since arriving in Foxborough as an undrafted free agent in 2022, the former transfer from Oregon to Arizona to Texas has appeared in all 38 games. His tenure spans 846 snaps on special teams as well as spots on the PFWA All-Rookie team and NFLPA All-Pro team.
The role carved has included kickoff and punt coverages, kickoff and punt returns as well as field goals and extra points. A total of 32 tackles have been logged by Schooler, who led the transitional phase in back-to-back campaigns and is on track to do so again under new special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety by trade has had a hand in four fumble recoveries, one blocked field goal and also blocked first career punt last week against the Miami Dolphins.
“Skillset and mentality,” retired special teams captain Matthew Slater said of Schooler in 2023. “I mean, the good Lord didn’t give us all the skills that he has in terms of his length, his speed, his quickness. But then I think what really sets him apart is his mental makeup, his understanding of the game, his football IQ, his toughness and just his overall commitment to this football team.”
The Houston Texans visit Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
