Morgan Moses, New England Patriots, Agree to Contract
The 2024 New York Jets disappointed everyone, and Morgan Moses played a role in the underwhelming campaign. Starting every game in which he appeared, the veteran finished the season ranked as one of the worst tackles in football, according to Pro Football Focus. Originally acquired via trade, New York believed Moses could provide the team with some much-needed blocking support for a now-healthy Aaron Rodgers. Instead, Moses struggled, Rodgers couldn’t overcome his surroundings, and the Jets had another disappointing season.
Morgan Moses originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Selected by the Washington Redskins, the Virginia product began his career as a backup before earning the starting job in 2015, beating out first-round pick Brandon Scherff for the honors. He proved worthy of the job, earning a five-year extension in 2017 and remaining with the organization through the 2020 season. Unfortunately, Washington cut Moses over the 2021 offseason.
Looking to re-establish his value, Morgan Moses signed a one-year, prove-it contract with the New York Jets in 2021. He proved up to the task, starting 16 of a possible 17 games and parlaying his successful season into a three-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore brought out the best in the veteran, as his 78.6 and 80.4 PFF grades ranked 13th and 10th in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Despite the strong play, the cash-strapped Ravens had no choice but to trade him back to the Jets during the 2024 offseason.
Since signing his rookie contract, Morgan Moses has appeared in 166 games while making 158 starts. While on the field, the Virginia product has earned just under $48 million.
