Despite both teams sharing 1-5 records, the oddsmakers don’t believe in the Patriots.
The New England Patriots will be taking their act overseas this week. On Sunday, the team of first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and first-year quarterback Drake Maye will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Both the Patriots and Jaguars have struggled so far, and will enter the Week 7 matchup with only two combined wins between them. Despite them sharing identical 1-5 records, however, he oddsmakers clearly feel stronger about one of the two teams.
Jacksonville enters the week as 5.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel. The over/under for the contest has been set at 42.5.
Like the Patriots, the Jaguars are coming off a lopsided loss: they were beaten 35-16 by the Chicago Bears on Sunday in their first of two straight games in London. Therein might lie the secret as to why the team is favored by almost a full touchdown: unlike the Patriots, the Jaguars stayed overseas for the week and will not have to feel the effects of any jet lag as drastically as New England might.
Regardless of the why, fact is that the Patriots will be underdogs for a sixth time in seven weeks this season. Kickoff between the two clubs on Sunday is set for 9:30 a.m. ET.
