Patriots improve to 2-6 on the year.
Things seemed to be heading in a bad direction for the New England Patriots as quarterback Drake Maye left the game int he first half with a concussion. But, Jacoby Brissett and Jerod Mayo’s squad answered the bell.
In relief, Brissett led a go-ahead 12-play drive that ended with Rhamondre Stevenson scoring from fourth-and-goal to clinch New England’s 25-22 victory over the New York Jets.
Here’s everything that went down from Gillette Stadium.
Final Score: Patriots 25 : 22 Jets
Sunday, October 27, 1 p.m. ET | Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA | Inactives | Game day roster | Broadcast information
First Quarter
The Jets won the toss and deferred, putting Drake Maye and the Patriots offense on the field first. Two runs to Rhamondre Stevenson set up a 3rd-and-5, where Maye’s pass downfield to Kayshon Boutte fell incomplete.
A 40-yard punt return by Xavier Gipson started the Jets offense over midfield. On their opening 3rd-and-3, Rodgers pass to Breece Hall fell incomplete. Keeping the offense on the field, New York took an intentional delay of game before punting.
Maye got New England’s offense on the move on their next drive, as New England picked up multiple first downs — including a third-down conversion to Hunter Henry and 11-yard scramble by Maye — to move inside the red area. From the 17-yard line, Maye kept it himself and outraced the Jets to the end zone. [Patriots 7 : 0 Jets]

The Jets got to the run game to start their next possession as Hall took his first two carries for 25 total yards. Over midfield on 3rd-and-9, Rodgers looked for Davante Adams downfield which fell incomplete, but a tough DPI on Christian Gonzalez netted a 17-yard gain. On the following third-down, another incompletion was wiped out due to another DPI on Christian Elliss. At the two-yard line, Rodgers hit Tyler Conklin for a score but the extra point was no good. [Patriots 7 : 6 Jets]
Second Quarter
New England’s next drive started with Maye extending the play and firing a downfield shot to Tyquan Thornton, who saw it go in-and-out of his hands before falling to the turf. Maye’s legs flashed again as he stumbled his way for 18 yards on a scramble — taking a hit to the head in the process. A Quinnen Williams sack pushed the offense backwards into a 3rd-and-12, where Maye’s pass was dropped by Kayshon Boutte.
A pair of completions to Jeremy Ruckert got New York’s offense on the move. After a trio of runs, Rodgers hit Garrett Wilson downfield for 27 yards. Set up at the one, a play-action pass from Rodgers to Gipson resulted in a score. [Patriots 7 : 13 Jets]
Injury update: QB Drake Maye (head) is questionable to return
With Maye in the locker room, Jacoby Brissett took over at quarterback for New England. Two stuffed runs set up a 3rd-and-8, where Brissett’s pass was complete to Douglas but short of the line to gain.
The Jets offense started things with a 26-yard completion on third-down off a slot fade to Wilson over Marcus Jones. After moving over midfield a penalty helped set up a 3rd-and-9, in which Rodgers’ pass to Hall was incomplete. New York then punted.
After failing to down the punt at the one, Brissett took over at the 20 with 1:51 left in the half. Two runs by Stevenson then set up a 3rd-and-1, where Brissett’s sneak was stuffed to end the half.
Third Quarter
Injury update: QB Drake Maye (concussion) has been ruled out.
New York started the second half up six and with the ball. Facing an opening 3rd-and-4, Keion White got home to pressure Rodgers and force an incompletion.
A 62-yard punt return from Marcus Jones set the Brissett-led offense up just outside the red area. A run and completion to Boutte moved the chains, before Brissett found Stevenson out wide to move inside the five. The next play, the back powered through for a score. [Patriots 14 : 13 Jets]

Now trailing, the Jets hit an explosive right out of the gate as Rodgers lofted a deep pass with pressure in his face to Garrett Wilson for 37 yards. A 15-yard completion to Adams and nine-yard run by Hall moved New York into the red area, but Gonzalez broke up a 3rd-and-1 slant to Adams. Zuerlein’s 29-yard field goal was good. [Patriots 14 : 16 Jets]
After moving the chains, Brissett’s 39-yard pass to Hunter Henry was called back due to a hold on Michael Jordan. Backed up into a 3rd-and-14, Brissett was then sacked.
New England’s defense continued to hold strong on their next possession, as Rodgers’ near fumble on second-down was ruled incomplete before his third-down pass fell out of Jaylinn Hawkins’ arms for a near interception.
A negative two-yard run on first-down set the tone for New England’s next drive, as Brissett then hit Henry for five yards before his third-down pass went through a contested Kendrick Bourne’s hands.
Fourth Quarter
Gipson’s 18-yard return set the Jets’ offense up near midfield where they needed just three plays — including a seam shot to Conklin for 27 yards — to move into the red area. Then facing 3rd-and-7, Christian Elliss got home for a sack. Zuerlein’s struggles then continued as he pushed a 44-yard field goal wide left.
Taking over at their own 34-yard line after the missed field goal, a flea flicker resulted in a seven-yard gain plus an additional 15 yards with a roughing the passer penalty. Stevenson picked up a first-down on the ground at the Jets 30 where then a run stuff and drop by Boutte led to a 3rd-and-11. From the gun, a quick completion to Henry into a blitz was enough for a first-down. On the following 3rd-and-9, Brissett found Thornton on a shallow cross for a 14-yard catch-and-run. After two failed runs set up a 3rd-and-goal, Brissett’s pass to Bourne fell to the turf. Joey Slye’s 23-yard field goal was good. [Patriots 17 : 16 Jets]
Back down one with 7:34 remaining, the Jets turned to the ground game to pick up a first off three straight runs. Two passes to Wilson — including a 22 yarder — got the Jets over midfield before a flip out to Hall moved them just outside the red area. A completion to Adams then moved New York inside the five, where Braelon Allen plunged in for a score two plays later. After a delay of game, New York’s two-point attempt was stopped short. [Patriots 17 : 22 Jets]
Needing a touchdown with 2:57 left, Jacoby Brissett took the field with two timeouts at the 30. A second-down completion to Henry for 12 yards got things moving but New England then quickly faced a 3rd-and-9. Following the two-minute warning, Brissett was able to escape the pocket and move the chains himself picking up 14 yards. On 3rd-and-10, Brissett hung in the pocket and lofted one downfield to Boutte, who slid under it for a 34-yard gain. Two touches to Stevenson set up a 3rd-and-goal from the five, where Brissett hit Boutte who was down just shy of the goal line. For the game on fourth-down, Stevenson plunged into the end zone for a score and added to two-point conversion. [Patriots 25 : 22 Jets]
With 22 seconds left, Rodgers’ pass downfield to Wilson fell incomplete near midfield. A second-down pass was complete but inbounds, which ended the game.
