The good and bad from the Patriots’ game in NFL Week 11.
The New England Patriots played some competitive football, but ultimately were unable to make enough plays to beat the visiting Los Angeles Rams. Losing by a final score of 28-22, they are now 3-8 on the year.
Here are some (Patriots-centric) highlights from the game.
Javon Baker’s big return

The Patriots started the game on the receiving end of the opening kickoff, and they sure made it count. Rookie Javon Baker fielded the kick in his own end zone, and proceeded to take it 46 yards to the New England 45. Unfortunately, the team let its good starting field position go to waste and eventually had to punt after gaining just 11 yards.

Kendrick Bourne was a surprise healthy scratch against the Chicago Bears last Sunday, but he made his presence felt early against the Rams. Catching three passes for 31 yards in the first quarter, he was actively involve in the offensive operation again. His biggest play came midway through the first period.
Facing a 2nd-and-5, quarterback Drake Maye delivered a strike to tightly-covered Bourne for a touchdown.

The touchdown was Bourne’s first score since returning from a torn ACL, as well as Maye’s eighth scoring pass in six career starts so far.
Zero blitz gone wrong

Unable to build on their first quarter touchdown, the Patriots found themselves in a 14-10 hole at the half. However, that hole expanded on just the second play from scrimmage in the third quarter: with New England defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington calling a zero blitz, Matthew Stafford found Cooper Kupp matched 1-on-1 versus Jonathan Jones. With no safety help, the pair was able to connect on a 69-yard touchdown.
Vederian Lowe scores a Big Man Touchdown

The Patriots were in dire need of some momentum in the early fourth quarter, and they found it via an unlikely source: left tackle Vederian Lowe. Doing his best Nate Solder impression, he declared himself eligible on a 2nd-and-goal from the 4-yard line, and ended up sneaking into the end zone without anybody covering him.
Drake Maye found the 6-foot-5, 315-pound blocker for his first career touchdown.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, they were unable to connect on the ensuing extra point. With the Joey Slye attempt blocked, they found themselves down 28-19 instead of being within one score.

Jonathan Jones did not play his best game against the Rams, but he came up big in a crucial spot when he broke up a Matthew Stafford pass intended for Puka Nacua. The breakup and a subsequent punt gave New England a shot to tie the game.

With 2:14 to go and down six points, the Patriots were in a position to drive for the victory late. However, an apparent miscommunication between Drake Maye and DeMario Douglas resulted in a game-ending interception.
