The New England Patriots take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this week in a battle of two of the worst offenses in the league. They’re so bad at scoring points that the sports books are expecting an historically low-scoring affair.
Ahead of their matchup on Thursday Night Football this week, oddsmakers have set the over/under for the game to 30 points. According to Yahoo Sports, it is the lowest over/under for a regular season game since 1993.
But it’s understandable that the total would be so low. Right now the Steelers are averaging just 16 points per game (28th in the league), while the Patriots are putting up a paltry 12.3 points per game – the worst in the league.
Neither team has been able to score 30 points in a single game this season. They’ve been held to single digits a combined seven times.
Lowest NFL Totals since 2010
1. O/U 30 points – Patriots vs Steelers (This Thursday)
2. O/U 32.5 points – Browns vs Saints (12/24/2022, 40+ MPH Winds)
3. O/U 33 points – Jets vs Falcons (Week 13, 2023)
Two of the three games with the lowest point totals in the last 13 years…

The difference between the two is that the Steelers have a top 10 defense to support their team, which is why they’ve managed to go 7-5 in spite of their terrible season. The Patriots defense is about average.
One can only imagine how low the predicted points total will be in Week 18 when the Patriots take on the equally anemic New York Jets…
