Plus, who should he hire to coach Drake Maye and the offense?
New England’s search for a new head coach barely lasted a week. On Monday, the team announced that their 16th head coach would be former-Patriots linebacker and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel has a 56-48 career record as a head coach, including a 2-3 record in the playoffs. He took the Titans to the AFC Championship Game in his second season, winning twice on the road to get there. Two years later, he led them to a 12-5 record and the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC.
After going 13-21 over the two years that followed, Tennessee decided to fire him following the 2023 season.
With the head coach hired, the next step will be to find someone to coach young quarterback Drake Maye and the offense. Some names rumored to be in consideration include former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, Rams tight ends coach and pass game coordinator and former Patriots tight ends coach Nick Caley, former Titans offensive coordinator and current Jets play caller Todd Downing, and former Titans offensive coordinator and current Giants tight ends coach Tim Kelly.
