One of the alluring factors for the New England Patriots in their ongoing head coaching search is the fact that they have a talented young quarterback already in place.
In fact, one head coaching candidate even went as far as predicting Drake Maye as a future top-five player in the league, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
“I talked to one head coach or potential head coach that is going to be interviewing with a couple of teams, and he told me that he thought Drake Maye, alongside Jayden Daniels, was one of the best young players in the NFL,” Schultz said on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Zolak & Bertrand.
“And I said, ‘What does that mean for you? What does that mean for a prospective head coach?’ And he said, ‘Given what he did, there is not a doubt that this guy is a franchise, bona fide quarterback and top-five dude in the next three or four years.”
Maye played with a lack of receiving talent and behind a makeshift offensive line. He also worked under an inexperienced coaching staff with a first-year head coach in Jerod Mayo.
Improved coaching and more offensive firepower could lead to a breakout 2025 season from Maye. The Patriots have figured out the hard part at quarterback.
Now it’s up to them to get everything else right.
