Bill Belichick’s incredible run as the head coach of the New England Patriots came to an end this Thursday.
Even though Belichick will always be remembered for his success in Foxborough, he wants to continue coaching, per multiple reports.
As of right now, there are eight head coaching vacancies in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders are just a few teams that have been linked to Belichick in the past few hours.
It’s also worth noting that ESPN’s Adam Schefter said there’s a mystery team that could make a run at Belichick. Apparently, that team hasn’t fired its head coach yet.
Here are a few landing spots that could fit the bill of that mystery team:
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Despite overachieving with Todd Bowles this season, there’s a chance the Buccaneers make a change at head coach. The odds of that happening will only increase if they lose on Wild Card Weekend.
Although it’d be odd for Belichick to go the Tom Brady route, there’s a decent amount of talent on Tampa Bay’s roster. It also helps that the division is a mess right now.
Belichick could inch closer to Don Shula’s all-time wins record by feasting on the NFC South.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
Two months ago, the thought of moving on from Nick Sirianni would be asinine. Fast forward to the present day, and there’s legitimate chatter about him being on the hot seat.
If the Eagles’ season ends against the Buccaneers on Monday night, the front office might want to give Belichick a call.
We’re not alone on this one. FS1 personality Nick Wright made it abundantly clear this week that Philadelphia would be an intriguing landing spot for Belichick.
1. New York Giants
Now this would be a huge surprise considering Brian Daboll is a year removed from taking the G-Men to the playoffs. However, we can’t ignore the history between Belichick and the Giants.
Belichick joined the Giants in 1979 as a special teams and defensive assistant. He was promoted to linebackers coach in 1980. Five years later, he became the team’s defensive coordinator.
There aren’t any rumblings about the Giants pursuing Belichick, but maybe that’ll change by next week.
