The New England Patriots might want some changes after this season as far as head coach Bill Belichick goes. But that doesn’t mean that they’re going to axe him altogether.
Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, former Patriots executive Michael Lombardi said that the reports that Belichick might be on the way out might not be as set in stone as some believe. He believes that the team might simply make a change in how the team is run with Belichick taking on less of a role as the team’s de facto general manager and staying focused on coaching.
“I don’t see it as a completely done decision. This is really about the future on how (the Patriots) want to run the company,” Lombardi said.
Belichick has long been derided as a poor judge of personnel. For years the team did fine with Tom Brady playing hero every week despite the roster having few to no players of true star power.

A compromise with Bill Belichick staying on as head coach but losing his general manager duties might be enough to save him in New England.
But he’d have to agree to such terms first.
Will Belichick stay in New England beyond this year?
