The belief this offseason was that only the Falcons expressed interest in longtime Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It turns out that wasn’t true.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Commanders considered Belichick for their opening at head coach. The ownership group in the nation’s capital ultimately decided to go with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
“The Commanders spoke with him and he had support from some decision makers,” Russini said. “In the end, Dan Quinn is their choice.”
Belichick got the best of Quinn during Super Bowl LI in 2017. Of course, that was the game where the Patriots erased a 28-3 deficit in the second half.
Fast forward to the present day, and Quinn finally got the best of Belichick in some capacity.
During the hiring process in Washington, Bill Belichick was considered for the job, per sources. The Commanders spoke with him and he had support from some decision makers. In the end, Dan Quinn is their choice.

Belichick has one of the best résumés we’ll ever see in professional sports, so it’s a bit bizarre to see him unemployed. However, that could change next year.
There are always a plethora of job openings after each NFL season. Perhaps a team in “win-now” mode gets desperate and hires Belichick in 2025.
