One Belichick will remain with the New England Patriots next season.
While Bill Belichick parted ways with the organization after 24 years, his son is staying on Jerod Mayo’s staff. Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, safeties coach Brian Belichick will return to New England for his ninth season.
Brian Belichick joined the Patriots as a scouting assistant in 2016. He spent the next three years as a coaching assistant before working on defense alongside Mayo, the inside linebackers coach.

The news comes a day after the Washington Huskies named Brian’s brother, Steve Belichick, their new defensive coordinator. He spent over a decade on New England’s staff in various defensive roles, most recently coaching outside linebackers.
Brian and Steve Belichick were reportedly both offered the opportunity to stay after their dad’s departure. Perhaps they would have followed him elsewhere if Bill landed a new job.
However, the six-time Super Bowl champion’s coaching future remains in limbo. Every NFL team filled its head coaching position elsewhere, leaving Bill Belichick a prominent free agent.
He interviewed twice with the Atlanta Falcons, who instead hired Raheem Morris. The Athletic’s Jeff Howe cited a “frosty relationship” between Belichick and team president Rich McKay as one main factor for them not working together in 2024.
The Patriots made other personnel moves Wednesday, hiring Miami Hurricanes general manager Alonzo Highsmith as a senior executive and former Cleveland Browns coaches T.C. McCartney and Scott Peters to work with quarterbacks and the offensive line, respectively.
