It’s becoming increasingly possible that the Los Angeles Chargers will part ways with embattled head coach Brandon Staley at the end of the season. If that happens, will New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick become an option for the Chargers?
According to one Chargers insider, the answer appears to be a resounding “no” for one simple reason: Money.
Appearing on The Gameplan with Tom Giles, Chargers insider Derek Togerson asserted that the Chargers are not looking to pay the kind of money to a head coach that Belichick might demand.
“I am here to tell you he will never coach the Chargers. Because the Chargers are not going to pay a coach,” Togerson declared. “It’s simply not going to happen.”
Would the Chargers be interested in hiring Bill Belichick?

The Chargers are currently 4-7 and riding a three-game losing streak which has seen their playoff hopes all but evaporate. Meanwhile, the rival Denver Broncos are on a five-game winning streak under the leadership of Sean Payton – who the Chargers snubbed as a head coaching option due to his salary demands.
Whichever team hires Bill Belichick is going to need to pony up a lot of money – regardless of the hits his reputation has taken since Tom Brady left in 2019.
Where will Belichick coach next year? Who will be the coach of the Chargers next year?
