The New England Patriots will officially say goodbye to Bill Belichick this Thursday afternoon. The two parties have decided to go their separate ways after 24 seasons together.
Technically, the Patriots will begin their search for a new head coach this week. Nonetheless, it’s being reported that a replacement has already emerged.
According to Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports, the Patriots want Jerod Mayo to be Belichick’s successor.
“The indications that I’ve gotten is that Jerod Mayo will be the successor to Bill,” Curran said. “That will be an interesting aspect of this press conference today. I don’t know if it’ll be mentioned or handled in a separate press conference.”
Curran reported similar information earlier this week.

Mayo has been on New England’s staff since 2019. He knows all about “The Patriot Way” considering he played for the franchise from 2008-2015.
If Mayo receives the job, there’ll be a ton of pressure on his shoulders. From everything being reported out of New England, it sounds like he’s up for the task.
