With the NFL Draft roughly two months away, the New England Patriots have apparently decided what they’ll do with the No. 3 pick.
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots want to draft a quarterback with the No. 3 pick. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels are considered the top options at the position.
Since the two teams picking ahead of the Patriots are also in the market for a quarterback, it’s too early to determine which prospects will be available when they’re on the clock.
The Patriots really want to draft a quarterback with the No. 3 pick. The front office wrapped up its pre-free-agency meetings a week ago and seems to be on the same page that the best way to jump-start this rebuild and yield long-term success is to find a young quarterback in the NFL Draft to build around.
It’s interesting that Howe is hearing that New England wants a quarterback with the third pick in the draft. Earlier this offseason, ESPN insider Dan Graziano said there’s chatter about the Patriots trading the pick.
“I’m hearing a bit of buzz about the third pick, which belongs to the New England Patriots,” Graziano wrote. “The Patriots also need a quarterback, but there are people around the league who believe they are open to trading the No. 3 selection, moving back in the draft and addressing the quarterback position in free agency.”
The Patriots are entering their first season in the Jerod Mayo era.
Regardless if it’s through free agency or the draft, Mayo will have a new quarterback under center for the 2024 season.
