Nothing has been agreed to at this time, but there’s a chance the New England Patriots shake up the entire draft order in April.
ESPN insider Dan Graziano reported that there’s some chatter about the Patriots trading the No. 3 overall pick.
“There has been a lot of talk about what will happen with the first and second picks of the 2024 draft, what the Bears and Commanders will do and where all the quarterbacks will end up. But I’m hearing a bit of buzz about the third pick, which belongs to the New England Patriots,” Graziano wrote. “The Patriots also need a quarterback, but there are people around the league who believe they are open to trading the No. 3 selection, moving back in the draft and addressing the quarterback position in free agency.”
We’re not entirely sure who the Patriots would pursue in free agency. Kirk Cousins could be available though.
Graziano mentioned the Falcons and Vikings as potential trade partners for the Patriots. Both franchises could be interested in selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft.
Last month, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was asked about the team’s plans for the No. 3 pick in the draft. His response was interesting to say the least.
“What I will say is this: we’re gonna draft the best player for a position that is very important,” Mayo said, via Sports Illustrated. “You put the pieces together.”
The Patriots should have a better idea about what they’ll do with the No. 3 pick after the first wave of free agency in March.
