As holders of the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots might not have their preferred choice of quarterback. But it seems clear that they’re drafting one and are doing their due-diligence to find the right one.
According to NFL insider Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Patriots are scheduling a “lengthy meeting” with LSU quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels ahead of tomorrow’s pro day. Per the report, the team will also be attending the pro day for North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye on Thursday.
“The Patriots will have a lengthy meeting tonight with LSU QB Jayden Daniels before attending his pro day tomorrow, per sources. They’ll then attend UNC QB Drake Maye’s pro day Thursday,” Howe wrote on X.
With Caleb Williams expected to go No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders expected to either draft a quarterback or trade their pick to a team that will, the Patriots may not have their top pick of a quarterback to take in the draft.
But that isn’t to say that Daniels won’t be a successful quarterback for them.
During the 2023 college football season, Daniels emerged as one of the most dynamic talents at quarterback that the sport has seen since Lamar Jackson. He completed over 72-percent of his passes for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns with just four interceptions while adding another 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
With the right cast around him, Daniels could be as successful as any quarterback coming out this year.
Will Daniels be drafted by the Patriots?
