New York Jets running backs coach Tony Dews is joining the New England Patriots coaching staff, according to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt.
Dews’ connection with coach Mike Vrabel comes from their time together with the Tennessee Titans. He served as the running backs coach under Vrabel from 2018-2022, along with a one-year stint as the tight ends coach in 2023.
During his time with the Titans, Dews worked multiple years with star running back Derrick Henry, who eclipsed 2,000 rushing yards in the 2020 season.
The Patriots have undergone several staff changes in recent days and were busy on Wednesday with the reported hirings of Dews as the running backs coach and Terrell Williams as defensive coordinator.
Vrabel has officially rounded out his coordinator staff with Williams, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer.
Dews joining the staff is a strong addition to a room with two experienced and talented running backs in Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson.
