Its onto plan B for the New England Patriots after losing out on the Calvin Ridley sweepstakes.
On Wednesday, the two-time 1,000-yard receiver signed with the Tennessee Titans on a four-year, $92 million deal with $50 million guaranteed. Now, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Pats will look elsewhere for wide receiver help.
Tweeted Anderson: “#Patriots will mainly turn their attention to the Draft to address WR, I’m told. They’ve ‘moved on.’ Remember, splashes come in the W/L column.”
Perimeter weapons have been lacking in New England for a long time now, dating back to Tom Brady’s final years in Foxborough. Last season rookie DeMario Douglas was the Patriots’ leading receiver with 561 yards while running back Ezekiel Elliott led the team in receptions.
It’s not exactly like the draft has treated the organization well either in recent years but they’re hoping that will change under the leadership of new head coach Jerod Mayo.
The Pats hold the No. 3 pick in April’s NFL Draft and will likely go quarterback after bringing back Jacoby Brissett as a veteran presence and fringe-starter. With so many holes on the roster though it wouldn’t be a complete shock to see the team follow the Bill Belichick model and trade back for additional picks.
We’ll find out April 25.
