With Bill Belichick no longer in charge, the New England Patriots are making a major change atop their personnel department.
Eliot Wolf, who served as the team’s director of scouting the past two seasons, will head the department and work in conjunction with new head coach Jerod Mayo, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.
“It appears Eliot Wolf will be in charge of the personnel department, with control of the 53-man roster working closely with Jerod Mayo,” Rapoport said. “[Director of player personnel] Matt Groh will mostly handle college scouting, with [senior personnel executive] Pat Stewart heavily involved in all aspects.”
Belichick had previously had the final say on all 53-man roster decisions during his time as head coach.

Wolf, 41, joined the Patriots as a consultant in 2020. Prior to that, he was the assistant general manager of the Cleveland Browns in 2018-19.
The son of legendary NFL executive Ron Wolf, Eliot Wolf got his start as a pro personnel assistant with the Green Bay Packers in 2004 and spent 13 years with the organization.
New England also added former NFL running back and University of Miami football general manager Alonzo Highsmith to its personnel department on Wednesday.
