Jayden Daniels threw for NFL teams during Wednesday’s LSU pro day. A handful of New England Patriots went to watch the quarterback.
According to Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer, the Patriots sent nine people to Baton Rouge. Head coach Jerod Mayo, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, and director of scouting Eliot Wolf were among those in attendance to scout the Heisman Trophy winner.
It makes sense that New England wanted all eyes on Daniels. The Patriots pick No. 3 next month, and quarterback is a glaring need for an organization that traded Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars following a disappointing third season.
Daniels could be an option, especially if Caleb Williams and Drake Maye go with the first two picks. Per the Boston Herald‘s Doug Kyed, owner Robert Kraft said he’d like to see the Patriots pick a new signal-caller, but they’re “open to whatever can come our way.”
“I’ll let the team make the decision what they think is best,” Kraft said. “One way or another, I’d like to see us get a top rate quarterback.”
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are one of six teams that will meet with Daniels. He’ll also talk with the Washington Commanders, who pick second, as well as the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders.
Meanwhile, Daniels isn’t the only quarterback New England will scout this week.
Breer added that the Patriots will also send a group to watch Maye at North Carolina’s pro day on Thursday. It’s unclear if all nine people will go to Chapel Hill.
