After nearly 25 years together and unparalleled success, it seems Bill Belichick’s relationship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft had started to dissipate.
In Peter King’s latest Football Morning In America column, the longtime NFL writer gave his thoughts on “The Dynasty” docuseries and shared some of his takeaways from what he saw transpire off the field in New England.
Saying:
I think the new Patriots’ doc on Apple TV+, ‘The Dynasty,’ reveals a lot about the frayed feelings between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, but — and I have not seen it — apparently a lot about some of the hard feelings Robert and Jonathan Kraft had for Belichick, as well. ‘Good example: Robert Kraft launched a $25 million fund to combat antisemitism in 2023. Belichick appeared at the league meetings with a blue-square pin denoting the Kraft cause — but instead of wearing the pin high on his shirt as most people would, he wore it down around his stomach. Maybe it was unintentional, but I doubt it. That’s the kind of thing that I’m sure ticked off the Krafts.
Things between Belichick and Kraft started to fray (at least publicly) when the coach had wanted the team to move off Tom Brady in favor of the younger Jimmy Garropolo.
But once the winning stopped and Belichick’s decision-making became more and more questionable, it was clear that he likely wouldn’t be back coaching the Patriots in 2024 and beyond.
