Tom Brady will reportedly have some New England Patriots family joining him as part of the Las Vegas Raiders’ ownership group.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Richard Seymour, who played defensive line for the Patriots from 2001-08, winning three Super Bowls alongside Brady, is preparing to become an owner and limited partner in the Raiders.
The 44-year-old Hall of Fame defensive tackle finished his career with the Raiders from 2009-12, earning two Pro Bowl bids and a second-team All-Pro selection.
Seymour is joining forces with Brady, Florio writes, and together, along with their partners, the two former teammates will own 10.4% of the franchise.
“The combination of Seymour and Brady is expected to resolve most of the concerns about Brady’s bid. Among other things, Mark Davis originally proposed giving Brady a steep discount over market value. That didn’t fly with the other owners,” Florio said.
The other concern NFL owners reportedly had with Brady buying stake in the Raiders is his upcoming assignment as FOX’s lead NFL game analyst. It’s possible that Las Vegas could exploit Brady’s weekly meetings with players and coaches from around the league to glean information on upcoming opponents, so some steps will likely be put in place to prevent that from happening.
The Seymour-Brady partnership could be presented to the league’s other owners in October, per Florio. Twenty-four votes would be necessary for its approval.
