Bill Belichick has been head coach of the New England Patriots for all but three days in the 21st century. But amid reports that he could be on the way out, NFL analyst Richard Sherman has a warning for the team.
On Wednesday’s edition of Undisputed, Sherman made the case that the Patriots should hold off on firing Belichick because doing so would usher in an era of “instability, uncertainty and anxiety” that they’re not used to or ready for.
“If the Patriots fire Bill Belichick they are walking into an era of instability, uncertainty and anxiety,” Sherman said.

But it’s an argument that works both ways. If things continue the way they are and Belichick truly has lost his touch, the Patriots could be heading into an era of frustration and perpetual underachievement.
Lest we forget, Tom Landry was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for nearly 30 years. But when the team went six years without a playoff win, Jerry Jones felt more than justified in giving him the boot.
Maybe Belichick just needs a little more time to find that true successor to Tom Brady and everything will be fine. So far, he’s 0-1 on post-Brady quarterbacks with Mac Jones pretty clearly not being the answer.
Will Patriots owner Robert Kraft give Belichick another chance?
