Bill Belichick’s future with the New England Patriots has been up for discussion for the last few months.
While many Belichick and the Patriots will part ways, former New England star Rob Gronkowski thinks his old coach wants to remain with the same organization he’s led since 2000.
Gronkowski also thinks, despite rumors to the contrary, that Patriots owner Robert Kraft will ultimately keep Belichick for the 2024 season.
“I know that Coach Belichick definitely wants to stay with the New England Patriots. He’s a Patriot for life,” Gronkowski said on TODAY Monday. “He’s a six-time Super Bowl champion. He’s like grandfather claused-in. I would say it’s all up to Mr. Kraft on what direction he wants to go with the New England Patriots. In the end, when it really comes down to it, I think he’s going to keep Coach Bill Belichick as the head coach for at least another year.”
When asked about the Patriots’ 4-13 season, the franchise’s worst showing in three decades, Gronkowski still has faith Belichick can regain his touch.
“He’s going to bounce back. He’s still an unbelievable coach,” Gronkowski said. “He knows how to use his talent when they’re out there out on the field. They have to go out there this offseason and bring some offensive players in and then he’ll be just fine.”
New England has the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a substantial amount of projected salary cap space. We’ll see if Belichick is around to make use of it.
