Tom Brady’s relationship with Bill Belichick reached such a low point that he knew he’d have to leave the Patriots.
The rise and downfall of the Patriots has been heavily documented in “The Dynasty,” a new series from Apple TV+. In the new docuseries, Patriots owner Robert Kraft addressed Brady’s rift with Belichick.
During the 2020 offseason, Brady ultimately left the Patriots to join the Buccaneers. New England, meanwhile, remained committed to Belichick.
When asked if he thinks Brady would’ve stayed in 2020 if the Patriots got rid of Belichick, Kraft replied, “Yes, I feel pretty strongly about that.”
This isn’t the first time that Kraft has discussed this hypothetical situation. It still haunts him to this day that Brady left and won another Super Bowl elsewhere.
“He just said, ‘I made a mistake.’ He told us that back in September,” Tom Brady Sr. said. “We don’t all make the right decisions, but he’s made a hell of a lot of good ones over the years. But I know that it galls him that Tommy went elsewhere and won. Not that he won, but that he won after Bill said he was done.”
Kraft can’t erase the past no matter how much it stings. He can, however, be grateful for the six championships that Brady and Belichick won together.
