Bruschi clearly is not a fan of “some people in the front office.”
Tedy Bruschi is a fan of the New England Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel as their new head coach, for one reason in particular. Vrabel is, in his words, going to “tighten the screws” on some of the loose elements within the organization that have contributed to its issues the last few seasons.
Bruschi gave his opinion on the hire on ESPN on Sunday, and he clearly made his feelings known about some unknown people high up in the organizational hierarchy.
“I love the hire. Of course, this guy is a friend of mine, but there is going to be a change,” Bruschi said. “I’m a little bit surprised that this happened because there are some people upstairs in the organization that want to be heard. And sometimes they’re going to have to take a bite of humble pie and understand, ‘Your opinion doesn’t matter on this one’ because there are people in the building that know more.
“I hope that is what happens this time around because the collaboration project did not work. I’m glad it’s going to change a little bit to a coach that has more experience and they know what they’re getting exactly with Mike Vrabel.”
Bruschi and Vrabel were teammates with the Patriots for eight seasons, helping the team win three Super Bowls. While the former went into media as a second career, the latter became a coach — first as an assistant at Ohio State and with the Houston Texans, and later as head coach of the Tennessee Titans and, most recently, a consultant with the Cleveland Browns.
In Bruschi’s opinion, his coaching experience and style will help him move the team in a positive direction again.
“Vrabel isn’t going to joke around,” Bruschi said. “Vrabel is going to tighten the screws. In my opinion, there are some people in the front office that need to be told, ‘You don’t know what you’re doing and you need to take a step back.’”
