The Cincinnati Bengals won’t go quietly into that good night when it comes to extending burgeoning star receiver Tee Higgins. Of course, New England Patriots fans are keeping a close eye on the unfolding drama surrounding the situation.
The Patriots were expected to be one of many teams vying for Higgins’ services in the offseason, but those hopes were nixed after Monday’s report that the Bengals are planning on franchise tagging him for a second consecutive season if they can’t reach a contract agreement.
A cryptic post even emerged from Higgins’ mother on social media following the news.
“Selfish [expletive],” Higgins’ mom posted.
When asked if the post was about the Bengals, she later followed up in a response to the commenter by simply saying, “It’s not.”
Fans have formulated their own opinions about the post, given the timing. Regardless, at 26 years old, Higgins has proven himself as a franchise talent who deserves to maximize his value.
Whether the Bengals are the team to help him do that or not remains to be seen. They still have a massive deal to get done with All-Pro wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, and they’re also hoping to bring back veteran defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
It’s going to take some serious magic for them to bring all three back on contract extensions. When it comes to Higgins, Patriots fans will continue watching and waiting.
