The New England Patriots could shake up the entire NFL Draft next Thursday night.
Eliot Wolf, the de facto general manager for the Patriots, revealed Thursday that New England isn’t married to the No. 3 overall pick. The franchise is willing to move that selection if the right offer is on the table.
“We’re open to anything,” Wolf said. “Moving up, moving down. We’re open for business in the first round and every round. We have some holes we feel like we need to fill in the draft. We’re a draft-and-develop team. The more picks we have the better.”
Back in February, ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported “there are people around the league who believe they are open to trading the No. 3 selection.” Wolf’s comments from Thursday’s press conference pretty much confirm that report.
The Patriots could, in theory, draft their quarterback of the future with the No. 3 pick. On the flip side, it’s possible their preferred choice at quarterback is unavailable.
Caleb Williams will most likely be selected by the Chicago Bears with the first pick. Former LSU star Jayden Daniels, meanwhile, is expected to be the second overall pick.
If the Patriots aren’t sold on Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy, they could sell the No. 3 pick to the highest bidder. That would certainly add more drama to the draft.
