During an appearance on “The Pivot Podcast,” NFL legend Tom Brady made an interesting comment about the way Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes plays the game.
Brady revealed that he somewhat regrets being so serious during his NFL career. The seven-time Super Bowl champion pointed out that today’s generation of players appear to be having so much fun on the gridiron.
“What I would have changed was, ‘OK, there’s part of me that still loves … You see these young players. I see, like, Patrick [Mahomes] out there at quarterback, laughing, having fun. I’m like, ‘I used to be like that! ‘ What the hell happened to me? I just got too serious,” Brady admit, via Mirror.
Christian Fauria, a two-time Super Bowl champion and former tight end for the Patriots, responded to Brady’s comments while on WEEI Boston Sports Original.
Fauria suggested that Brady is wired in a way where he can’t just tone it down.
“I think Brady is a liar,” Fauria said, via Marca. “When I heard it, I was like, ‘Who’s he kidding? He can’t change. He can’t downshift. This is not who he is. He’s not wired like Mahomes.
“I’ve seen him have a great time; I’ve heard him laugh and joke around. But when it came to the game, you could see it during certain passes, or where he won a game or got a first down. “He’s extremely happy, he’s celebrating like a little kid, but the reality is he is just wired so differently than Mahomes. Everything about him is different.”
Brady’s intensity on the field is what made him the most accomplished player in NFL history.
That being said, it’s pretty neat to see Mahomes thrive while also letting loose from time to time.
