In a recent conversation with a report, Tom Brady’s father confirmed a report from ESPN that Robert Kraft was not happy with Brady won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He wasn’t unhappy with Brady, but was furious with Bill Belichick for suggesting that Brady’s career was over. “Bill had told me he couldn’t play anymore and then he goes out and wins the (expletive) Super Bowl,” Kraft reportedly said.
Brady’s father confirmed Kraft was upset and even offered an apology to the Brady family for the decision to release that seven-time Super Bowl champion.
Here’s what Brady’s father said, via NESN:
“He just said, ‘I made a mistake.’ He told us that back in September,” Tom Brady Sr. told The Boston Globe’s Christopher Gasper. “We don’t all make the right decisions, but he’s made a hell of a lot of good ones over the years. But I know that it galls him that Tommy went elsewhere and won. Not that he won, but that he won after Bill (Belichick) said he was done.”
Brady’s immediate success in Tampa Bay and the Patriots lack of success in molding former first-round pick Mac Jones into a starting quarterback likely exacerbated the issues between Belichick and Kraft.
In the end, the two decided to part ways after the 2023 season came to a close.
If Brady had stayed in New England would Belichick still be the team’s head coach?
